What is a paper tunnel book?
It's not a traditional book with words and pages that flip, although it does move. Tunnel books are a set of pages bound on both sides by folded accordion-style paper. Each page has a hole cut into it that allows the viewer to see all the way to the back of the book. The pages work together to create a three-dimensional scene. Artists painstakingly create each page in a tunnel book and will use the cover and accordion side surfaces for the scene being depicted. Historically, paper tunnel books were created to commemorate special events such as the opening of a new bridge, tunnel, or building. They were also sold as souvenirs of tourist attractions.
